Swedish Massage is a firmer treatment involving 5 main movements, developed by Swedish doctor Per Henrik Ling, who was a physical therapist and the developer and teacher of medical-gymnastics.
These techniques are effective at relieving physical stress, aches and pains and stiffness, as well as relieving emotional stress and other therapeutic qualities.
This form of massage can also enhance flexibility and beneficial to athletes who may have a build up of lactic acid in the muscles, which causes stiffness and pain.
Swedish massage can help by stimulating a fresh flow of blood to the affected areas, flushing out lactic acid build up, as well as clearing toxins through the lymph.
Swedish massage techniques are designed to relax the muscles by applying pressure to them and rubbing in the direction of blood flow to the heart.
The lymph system and veins rely on muscle action to flow through the body, rather than the pressure pumping of the heart.
Swedish massage not only stimulates lymph flow, but also speeds up the flow of the veins from the extremities.
As well as relaxing muscles, Swedish massage, increases blood circulation and removes metabolic waste products from the system to help benefit the client.
The movements also help to stretch the ligaments and tendons to keep them supple. It also helps to stimulate the skin and nervous system, relaxing the nerves themselves.
